PUGET SOUND LIBERALS

Enhancing Freedom, Opportunity and Cooperation in Lake Hills and Beyond

As Liberals, we believe:

  • All Americans should have the same freedoms and opportunities.
  • We are each responsible for protecting the freedoms and opportunities of all Americans.
  • We and our government should be competent and compassionate, using our freedoms and opportunities wisely and helping those with fewer freedoms and opportunities than the rest of us.
  • Our United States should be a cooperative member of our world's community of nations.

Having good values is not enough.

Within our Lake Hills Neighborhood, we are working hard to mobilize liberals to realize these values. We hope to demonstrate how to create a neighborhood where liberals thrive and multiply to win all our elections. Begun in October 2005, we now have 926 members, 504 residing in Lake Hills and others throughout our Puget Sound.

Weekly Newsletter and Website

We have no regular monthly meetings, but occasional potlucks and have a monthly salon, featuring fine food and discussion. Our weekly email newsletter reports our neighborhood enhancement, political action, and political education activities. More information appears on our www.lakehillsliberals.org website. Our action teams research and act. We have no dues, paying our expenses with member donations.

No More Lonely Lake Hills Liberals

In traditionally conservative Lake Hills, half of our households (80) display 'Proud Liberal, Time for a Change' yard signs and 'Proud Liberal' bumper stickers. Lake Hills has become a neighborhood where Liberals thrive. We are welcoming new neighbors, promoting 100 block parties so neighbors can know and care for each other, and promoting cooperation among our house owner and apartment tenant communities. Our action teams address crime prevention, disaster response, school and children's services, healthy living, political action, and more.

Political Action to Win Elections

We encourage our members to submit letters-to-the-editors (Our publication rate exceeds 50 %.) and letters to our political representatives. We gather for watching campaign debates, election returns and presidential addresses. We host presentations by candidates and our elected representatives. We are canvassing to register voters and identify all liberals and encourage them to vote. We collect petition signatures, picket and hold vigils to support causes we favor.

Forging an Educated Network of Liberal Activists

We are teaching our members about our historic liberal values and struggles, how to apply our values to current situations to create policies and actions, and effective political action. We are attempting to reconcile secular and religious activists to act more effectively together. We hope our outreach members will create similar groups in other areas, to counteract the political activities of the nation-wide network of conservative Christian churches.
